At a presidential election that held on Thursday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, Ahmad Ahmad won 34 of the 54 votes cast leaving former president Issa Hayatou with 20 votes.
"Asides being a member of the new CAF executive, Pinnick has also the protection of the Federation Internationale de Football Association hierarchy and is already a member of Federation Internationale de Football Association competitions committee", the source told TheCable.
Moments after his victory inside the main chambers of the African Union House here, the 57-year-old Ahmad and his supporters erupted in a loud celebration.
If the drastic changes at Federation Internationale de Football Association, where a raft of senior staff have been removed since Gianni Infantino was elected last February, are any indication to go by, CAF's administration in Cairo is also set for a shake-up. "When you work hard for years and months and you succeed, that is great".
The Nigeria football chief had triggered the Infantino involvement when he brought him to Nigeria alongside African FA chairmen in a move that started the eventual fall of Hayatou.
Amazon officially brings Alexa to the iPhone
The implementation isn't quite as elegant as what you get from an Echo or Echo Dot-those offer hands-free Alexa integration. An Amazon spokesperson said Alexa on the Amazon app will be available on Android devices but didn't give an exact date.
Namibia Football Association president Frans Mbidi has publicly backed Ahmad, a fellow COSAFA colleague ahead of the election, citing a need for change.
While dedicating his triumph to all Nigerians, Pinnick also said that he will see to it that Nigeria actively participate in the running and development of football in Africa.
While Ahmad's campaign team had predicted the result, and there were signs that Hayatou's grip on power was loosening as he sought an eighth term, his defeat was still stunning.
Infantino called for support for the new CAF president after witnessing Thursday's coup.
He had been challenged for the Caf presidency only twice before and both times won with landslide victories. The two had a falling out recently, however, after the Egypt Competitions Authority accused them of breaching anti-monopoly regulations over a marketing and television rights deal and referred them to criminal prosecution. Ahmad was accused of alleged corruption in the award of the 2022 World Cup ticket to Qatar.
