On the occasion of 126th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BHIM Aadhaar -a digital payment platform -and declared about 75 townships to go less-cash.

The Centre believes that Bhim-Aadhaar - also known as Aadhaar Pay - will make online payments easier for the illiterate and those without mobile phones or online wallets. While APB will serve as a repository between banks and customers, AEPS will authenticate the online process. Once the customer's Aadhaar number is entered, the app will show the bank accounts linked with the Aadhaar number. "Back end is being handled by Aadhaar, so why should customers pay?"
He also launched incentive schemes for the BHIM - cashback and referral bonus - with an outlay of Rs 495 crore for a period of six months.

On the security front, the Interface uses two main platforms, Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB) as a repository between banks and Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) to ensure that all the details provided are authentic through an internal process as described by NITI Aayog. Under the Cash Back scheme, merchants will get money back on every transaction using BHIM.

Based on a biometric platform, any Aadhaar card holder can now pay to any merchant using his thumb impressions. Thanks to the update you can now send money to your contacts directly from the app; however it's limited only to users of the BHIM app and *99# USSD users.
