Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is running for the U.S. Senate.
It was September that the nine-member Alabama Court of the Judiciary (COJ) unanimously voted in favor of the suspension of Moore who had directed probate judges to disregard federal orders to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
"My position has always been God first, family then country", Moore added.
He also linked himself to the president, saying, "I know I share the vision of our President Donald Trump to make America great again". Yet after Bentley was forced to resign amid a sex scandal, new Gov. Kay Ivey moved the date of the Republican primary forward to August 15, followed by a December 12 general election. He chose state Attorney General Luther Strange, ignoring rumors the new senator had given the Bentley scandal a wide berth in exchange for this supreme favor. To declare that homosexuality is harmful is not to make new law but to reaffirm the old; to say that it is not harmful is to experiment with people's lives, particularly the lives of children.
Stuart is the first Republican woman to hold the position of chief justice.
Moore was suspended by the Court of the Judiciary until the end of his term, and this month lost his Alabama Supreme Court appeal against the decision.

Senate has finally confirmed Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as the next U.S. Perdue won confirmation on a strong bipartisan vote of 87-to-11 on Monday.
"Alabama will become "Ground Zero" in the political and cultural war", said Dean Young, a longtime Moore supporter. In 2003, he was removed from the bench for refusing to remove a statue of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama Supreme Court's rotunda.
"The people of Alabama have watched Judge Moore, time and again, stand up to the federal courts and defend the Godly principles that have made this nation great". After a West Point education and some odd experiences as a kickboxer and an Australian cowboy, Moore settled into a reasonably quiet legal and judicial career in eastern Alabama.
Other announced candidates include state Rep. Ed Henry and Dr.
In 2007, Stuart was one of four justices who dissented from a ruling allowing Alabama to give its driver's license test in multiple languages and joined another decision that year which struck down $3.5 billion in punitive damages awarded to the state against ExxonMobil over a dispute about natural gas in Mobile Bay.
Moore said he had no regrets about his former stances. And now Moore will take his virtually universal name recognition and his hard-core Christian-right base of support into a low-turnout multicandidate Senate race where nearly anything can happen. He finished fourth in the 2010 GOP primary, a race eventually won by Robert Bentley.
Shortly after Moore's announcement, Alabama Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker announced he will run for Chief Justice in the 2018 Republican primary election.
