After several days on the run, a prisoner who escaped the custody of officers last week in Maryland was captured Wednesday night, police said. He was just a few hundred yards, authorities said, from where the caller had reported seeing him.
The pipe, which is about 18 inches in diameter, was confirmed to be empty earlier in the day, but officers rechecked the area with night vision equipment after dark, police said. Watson was serving a sentence of more than 100 years in a correctional facility in DE for attempted murder.
Investigators say he was taken into custody around 9:40 pm in a wooded area near the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital. Wicomico County Department of Corrections Director George Kaloroumakis said Friday, April 28, 2017, Watson, an inmate from DE, was being taken to the hospital for an evaluation, but he escaped in the hospital's parking lot.
At one point, Watson broke into a building that stored clothing and hard hats, stealing the items he was seen wearing Wednesday morning, Gardner said.
Watson had escaped on Friday in the parking lot of the hospital on Dorsey Run Road in Jessup, where he was being taken for a mental evaluation.
On Friday, Watson was being transported to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup from the Wicomico County Detention Center when he pushed a guard and ran into the woods. Watson told police he had been moving back-and-forth throughout the six-day span, eating from trash cans and drinking from puddles, Gardner said.

The president met with Brown's family Tuesday morning. "He was involved all the time and he was at every meeting", Crawford said. Counseling services have also been increased for students who need it, he said. "Police were resuscitating a victim".
Search crews scoured the region for days before Howard County police found him Wednesday night. "It certainly was a challenge for them", Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman said.
Helicopters, bloodhounds, K-9 units and tactical teams are participating in the search, which includes the Howard County Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Maryland State Police, Anne Arundel County Police Department, Howard County Sheriff's Office, Natural Resources Police and CSX Police. Police found materials inside a small concrete drainage tunnel near Wednesday's sighting, as well as shoe prints, but not Watson. Officers were also searching woods and tunnels throughout the area.
During the hearing, Watson said "They're trying to hurt me there".
Watson is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds.
How exactly Watson escaped is still under investigation.
Anyone who sees Watson should call 911 immediately.
