Earlier on Wednesday, a suspected ISI agent Altaf Ali was arrested from Mumbai and another agent named Aftab Ali, was taken into custody from Faizabad. The police recovered accused's mobile phone, a diary and Rs71 lakh in cash from their residence.
In a joint operation conducted by the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Military Intelligence and UP Intelligence, Aftab Ali was picked up from Faizabad, 120 km from Lucknow, this evening, IG ATS Aseem Arun said.
In a major breakthrough, the UP ATS team yesterday busted an espionage racket and arrested suspected ISI agents from Faizabad and Mumbai.
Aftab, who allegedly spied on Indian army bases in UP and Punjab, had received training in Pakistan from the ISI and was also in touch with officials in the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, said ATS officials. Apart from chatting with Meherban, Aftab also came in contact with an ISI handler in Pakistan and continued to receive instructions from a person posted in Pakistan High Commission. The UP ATS claimed Ali was gathering sensitive information about the military and passing it on to his ISI handlers.Читайте также: Jay Cutler might bring his misery to an National Football League broadcast booth
"Ali was spying for Pakistan's secret service, Inter Service Intelligence (ISI), for past three years", claimed Arun. Now settled in Karachi, Meherban was among the six-member group that was pulled out of the Pakistan High Commission in November 2016 for being part of an espionage ring.
Pictures of the Cantonment area in Faizabad were recovered from Ali's phone, and he was allegedly keeping a close watch on the movement of troops in the area, especially between Faizabad and Lucknow, besides the deployment of army battalions.
"He (Aftab Ali) was in constant touch with Pakistan High Commission", the ATS said in a statement, according to ABP News. A probe has also been initiated into the money regularly deposited in Ali's bank account. More arrests are likely to be made as other names have also been cropped up following the interrogation. He added that he got a call from Pakistan saying 'Dava-paani ke liye paise bhej do (send some pocket money)' to the alleged ISI agent Ali.
The Uttar Pradesh police had issued a warning last month, warning of a possible terror attack in the state by ISI-trained militants.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
