Ford, who will be reprising his role as blade runner Rick Deckard, said he thought it was fascinating just how important the conversation surrounding the ethical nature of technology has become in 2017. Thanks to the jump to the HD generation, the visuals in this movie look better than the 1982 original.

The film stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.

Villenueve said that Deakins is a master at the "logic of light", but was allowed to go much more impressionistic in Blade Runner 2049, and he says that the movie is Deakins' "most stunning work".

The preview sees Los Angeles Police Department Officer K (Gosling) seek out long-missing blade runner Rick Deckard (Ford) after discovering a long-buried secret.

A full-length trailer of the forthcoming film sequel will arrive on Monday, May 8, which will coincide with a live question and answer (Q&A) with Gosling, Ford and director Denis VIlleneuve.

This should come as no surprise though - it is after all modern filmmaking master Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario, Prisoners) at the helm, and he is once again teaming up with living legend cinematographer Roger Deakins. "Blade Runner 2049" looks set to hit cinemas internationally at the beginning of October. So even if Deckard's true identity is revealed in the sequel, Blade Runner fans may have a new character's origin over which to obsess. Last week, two stylish new posters for the movie were released.
