The call was not listed on the prime minister's schedule or on the White House schedule, but Haaretz reported it was Trump who called Netanyahu after the US president spoke with Jordan's King Abdullah.
"No Israeli leaders will join President Trump at the Western Wall", H.R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, said Tuesday at a briefing for reporters ahead of Trump's Middle Eastern and European tour next week.
Friedman also mentioned Trump's upcoming visit to Israel, observing that the president had chosen Israel one of the stops on his first global trip as a demonstration that "His love for and commitment to the State of Israel is rock-solid and enjoys his highest priority".
Israel recaptured east Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount in the Old City, in the 1967 war.
Trump is expected to visit Israel on Monday where he will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then travel to Bethlehem the next day for a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas.
Israel illegally annexed East Jerusalem after the 1967 occupation, and neither the United States nor much of anyone recognizes that as legitimate.
China factory output slows in April, as credit tightens
Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted factory output would grow by 7.1 percent in April, easing from March's 7.6 percent. Fixed-asset investment grew 8.9% in the first four months of this year, the National Bureau of Statistics said.
Friedman said that Trump had no "specific political plan or roadmap" on Israeli-Palestinian peace and promised that Trump would not demand Israel to freeze construction in the settlements.
Asked about the matter, a White House official told Reuters on Tuesday: "These comments were not authorized by the White House". An official, later identified by Israel's Channel 2 as David Berns, political counselor at the USA consulate in Jerusalem, reportedly snapped, "This isn't your territory". That policy, that "the Western Wall is in Jerusalem", hasn't changed, a State Department official said following Haley's comments. Jerusalem is in Israel.
Shapiro called it "meaningful" and reflective of strong relations that Israel is part of the trip.
The reported decision marks a striking departure from Trump's campaign rhetoric during his run for the White House in 2016, when he repeatedly promised to move the U.S. mission to "the eternal capital of the Jewish people" in Jerusalem. "So much of what goes on is in Jerusalem and I think we have to see that for what it is", she continued.
"It will advance it by righting a historical wrong and by shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel", Netanyahu said.
The status of sovereignty over the wall became a political issue between the USA and Israel earlier this week. The relocation is strongly opposed by many US allies as the Palestinians also claim the city as their capital. "The tricky part is where the Palestinians come in on this and where the Israelis comes in on this", Haley explained. The Palestinians want east Jerusalem as a capital of a future state.
