Kroger now has 2,800 stores nationwide, while Fresh Encounter operates 21 stores under the Community Markets, Great Scott Community Markets, Sack "N Save Supermarket and Chief banners".
There was no mention in the paperwork, filed by Indianapolis-based Marsh as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case in the state of DE of the fate of the 18 other stores on the block, the Star Press, in Muncie, Ind., reported.
A bankruptcy court document says two Ohio-based grocery chains have agreed to buy 26 of Marsh Supermarkets' 44 remaining stores for a total of $24 million. CVS bought Marsh's pharmacy assets in April, on the condition that Marsh had to wait five years before reopening pharmacies in stores that used to have them. Marsh has countered that the agreement only bars Marsh from operating pharmacies at the stores, and that the language is not enforceable under the bankruptcy code.
Generative Growth LLC of Findlay, Ohio, has reportedly agreed to purchase 15 of the stores, including Tipton's, at a cost of $8 million.

Marsh said in a court filing Tuesday that Topvalco agreed to buy two stores each in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Muncie and Zionsville, and single stores in Brownsburg, Fishers and Greenwood.
