Authorities say the man who opened fire on GOP lawmakers on Wednesday was carrying a list of Republicans, according to NBC News. Hodgkinson, a Belleville, Ill., resident who officials said had been living out of his auto in Alexandria, Va., opened fire as Congress members and staffers practiced for a charity baseball game slated for Thursday. Mo Brooks of Alabama, Jeff Duncan of SC and Trent Franks of Arizona.
According to a source who spoke with CBS News, the list isn't being considered an "assassination list", as it was described by The Daily Caller, who first reported the news. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and three other people were wounded in the attack.
The story goes on to say that Hodgkinson likely suffered from some sort of mental illness and his political beliefs had "little" to do with his desire to target only congressional Republicans, even quoting a local Democratic staffer who categorically denied that Hodgkinson ever volunteered for them.
Although Franks discussed the FBI's involvement, the FBI Washington field office hasn't provided no comment with regards to its ongoing investigation.
The suspect in the shooting at the congressional baseball practice earlier this week had a list including the names of some members of Congress on him, CBS News has confirmed.
Law enforcement officials continued Friday to analyze Hodgkinson's social media activities and examine his Belleville, Ill., home.
