Enlarge / Google only shared an outline of the VR180 camera design. This novelty is called VR 180 and it is going to be at YouTube content creators disposal in order to create an immersive but quality video experience. Livestreaming videos will also be supported by the new format.
For content creators, there wouldnt be need for any special equipment or editing tools for making VR180 videos. 360 video is great for virtually teleporting someone to a location, but it's not an appropriate format for more traditional, structured content with a stage, lighting, and a place you're supposed to be looking at.
VR footage is typically created using 360-degree video formats, which require the person filming to capture footage in a full circle around them.
Outside VR, they'll show up as conventional level recordings, yet you can watch them in 3D virtual reality through the YouTube application with a Google Cardboard, PlayStation, VR headsets, and Daydream.
The limited field of view does have its advantages, such as providing viewers with a sharper 4K resolution directly in front of them, smaller file sizes, and less concern over stitching and parallax issues.
"For creators, you'll be able to set up and film your videos the way you normally would with any other camera", Rodriguez said. However, 360-degree videos are expensive to make and are time-consuming as well.

Daydream is now collaborating with manufacturers like LG and Lenovo to make the new VR180 cameras. The first device from partnering makers would make a debut this winter. Z CAM's upcoming 3D180 camera (pictured below) will be VR180 certified. Google is working with YI, Lenovo, and LG on cameras, which will launch before the end of this year.
