More than a half-dozen commercial cargo ships have joined four cruise ships in a logjam at the Port of Galveston, waiting to get the green light to port. According to a release from the line, "the Carnival Freedom and Carnival Valor are at sea and will remain a safe distance from the storm". Earlier today, Harvey strengthened to become a Category 3 level storm.
Officials said the Port of Galveston shut down Friday. As for the Carnival Breeze, it is now docked in Cozumel and will depart for Galveston Saturday.
Carnival Corp said in a statement on its Facebook page, "Given the severity and projected path of the storm along with potential challenges guests may encounter attempting to travel back to Galveston independently, we are strongly encouraging them to remain on board as we intend to return the ships to Galveston as soon as feasible". Carnival Breeze is currently docked in Cozumel and will now overnight there.
The duration of your cruise will have to be shortened and the itinerary modified. Cruise details will be finalized once we have confirmed our arrival into Galveston.
"Just Read the Instructions" success for SpaceX
And this is actually good news for SpaceX as a business, as much as Musk may love to cultivate his relationship with the media. The company has launched more rockets this year than any other year before, and we still have about five months to go.
Guests whose trips were cut short will receive a prorated refund or can cancel their cruise without penalty, the company said.
Right now, Carnival tells us their customers should sign up for text messages alerts to keep up with updates from the company.
The one Royal Caribbean ship at sea that is affected by the hurricane will stay put behind the storm and is scheduled to return to Galveston Sunday, per the Chronicle.
Carnival said that three of its ships were unable to return Galveston as scheduled and that two of them would be forced to divert instead to New Orleans, where they would resupply. Harvey is forecast to be a major hurricane when it makes landfall along the middle Texas coastline.
"Our intention is to keep with our original schedule for our return to Galveston", said Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez.
