Mount Agung, a volcano on the highest alert level, is seen from Kubu, on the resort island of Bali, Indonesia, on Wednesday. Host communities were providing food and water, while the central and local governments were providing tents, blankets and other relief. "I think there are some people that either don't understand, or don't believe, or are just stubborn and don't want to go", said Kenny Peavy, an American expat who fled with his family last Friday.
The volcano is in Bali's Karangasem district, which is home to 408,000 people.
"I would definitely be following the advice to stay outside the exclusion zone", said Heather Handley, an assistant Earth sciences professor at Sydney's Macquarie University.
Nugroho added: "We've set a target to evacuate 20,000 more cows from the affected areas".
"If we look at the magnitude, it continues to increase, yesterday we also felt several quakes with the magnitude of three on the Richter scale", said Kasbani, head volcanologist at the centre who goes by one name.Читайте также: 'Hurricane Hunters' find Jose is 'strong' tropical storm
Elsewhere in the Pacific, all 11,000 residents of the island of Ambae in Vanuatu were evacuated when the Manaro Voui volcano erupted last weekend.
THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advised Filipinos living in or travelling to Bali in Indonesia to exercise caution in the light of increased volcanic activity in Mount Agung. Indonesia, itself, has prepared Jakarta, Banyuwangi, Makassar, Kupang, Balikpapan, Ambon, Surabaya, Manado, Praya, and Solo airports for emergency use, should the situation deteriorate. The United States and Australian governments have issued travel warnings to all those thinking of traveling to Bali.
Mount Agung erupted in 1963 and killed more than 1,000 people.
The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation said activity of Mount Agung remained high on Thursday, recording 125 volcanic earthquakes between 12am and 6am.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
