Regardless, this is great news and is solid evidence to support that Nintendo may be getting actual GameCube Virtual Console games ready for the Switch. But the fact that GameCube controllers work at all is going to be very exciting for Nintendo fans who believe it's the best controller the company ever made.
I don't know about the rest of you out there, but when we got our first official look at the Nintendo Switch a year ago, my biggest question was how will I play my beloved Super Smash Bros. series? You can play any Switch game with it, but you'll have to give up some controls (ZL is the shield in Zelda, for example), keep another controller on for the home button and get used to awkward mapping. Though we would prefer that Nintendo clearly list all of the features that each firmware update brings to the table, being able to now use GameCube controllers with the Switch is a pleasant surprise.
