Smartphone maker ZTE has unveiled a dual-screen foldable smartphone Axon M at an event in the US. While the handset doesn't feature the best hardware to date, the Shenzhen-based original equipment manufacturer isn't highlighting its basic internal specs as some of its selling points.
The new Axon M boasts a metal frame and is both thicker as well as heavier when compared to many other more "regular" smartphones. The phone fits the definition of a device with a folding display, albeit of a different kind than what is expected. But here's the kicker: there's a hinge that connects the two screens, meaning they can be flipped and joined side-by-side, essentially making it a foldable tablet of sorts. Essentially, you can fold the phone to have a display on the front and back, or you could open it up and the two 5.2-inch displays will make up one 6.75-inch display that is separated by the hinge. The phone is backed by a 3180mAh battery and runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
Applications of dual-screen: One can use this dual-screen feature in the following scenario. The Extend mode lets you open an app across both the screens to give you more content at once. The device features two 5.2-inch displays and is meant to solve the multitasking pain point. Do make a note however, that not all apps will work with the extended screen mode. Is this what you thought of when you imagined what a "foldable phone" would look like? There are dual speakers onboard, besides a dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip, a very handy 3.5mm headphone jack besides a USB Type-C port.
ZTE is back on the headlines as the company has launched an unexpected device in the market with ZTE Axon M. This is the most interesting yet weird device or we can say smartphone that the company has announced. The device packs 64GB inbuilt storage.
USA decision to withdraw from UNESCO triggers calls for multilateralism
It will become a mere "observer state", with no dues paid and no contribution to how the organization is run. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, applauded Trump's decision to withdraw from UNESCO .
The phone gets its juice from a 3,180mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. It is sadly not a foldable screen smartphone if you were hoping for that. There is only a single 20 megapixel camera on the smartphone which is used as the main as well as the selfie camera.
ZTE has revealed that the phone will be offered in the USA (via AT&T), Japan, China and Europe.
The ZTE Axon M is certainly different, and ZTE feels bullish enough about the product that it is launching it exclusively with AT&T in the US.
