No more east-west distinction in NBA All-Star.
The NBA regular season is still two weeks away, which means All-Star weekend is still four months away, but with the league announcing dramatic format changes to the 2018 All-Star Game in Los Angeles, it's the hot topic in early October.
But the National Basketball Association airballed an opportunity to also ensure the best 24 players will be on the court at this season's All-Star Game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Players and league officials have been eager to inject new interest in the often defense-absent game, and they chose to act after another tiresome affair last February in New Orleans.
"I'm thrilled with what the players and the league have done to improve the All-Star Game, which has been a priority for all of us", said Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul, the NBPA's president. "We're looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in L.A". Fans, players and media will still vote for the 12 players from the Eastern and Western Conferences that will take part in the event, but player captains will be responsible for compiling each team's roster. There will still be 24 players, overall, selected for the All-Star team with the fans, players, and media all voting for the 10 All-Star starters same as past year. NBA All-Star Voting 2018 presented by Verizon will tip off on Monday, Dec. 25 before five Christmas Day games across ESPN, ABC and TNT.
