"I can only say that the law will be applied if we receive (the European arrest warrant)", Belgium's prosecutor told Spain's EFE news agency.
The fight between Spain and Catalonia's separatists reached a Belgian judge on Sunday after the region's deposed leader and four ex-ministers surrendered in Brussels to face possible extradition to Madrid for allegedly plotting a rebellion. They fled to Brussels after Madrid's central government imposed direct rule over the autonomous region.
Puigdemont and the four ex-ministers left for Belgium last week as the Spanish government, seeking to quash Catalan separatists' escalating steps to secede, applied constitutional authority to take over running the region.
On Thursday, nine members of Mr Puigdemont's sacked cabinet were ordered by Spain's High Court to be held on remand pending an investigation and potential trial.

Shortly after the decision, Puigdemont said on Twitter that the "legitimate government of Catalonia had been sent to jail for its ideas and for having been faithful to the mandate approved by the parliament of Catalonia".
Carmen Lamela, a judge in Spain's National Court, asked the Belgian prosecutor's office to arrest Puigdemont and four ministers in the dissolved Catalan government who ignored a court order to appear before a judge Thursday. The ninth spent a night behind bars before posting bail and being released.
An opinion poll published by La Vanguardia shows the December election Rajoy scheduled is too close to call, with projections for a near even split of seats for pro-independence and non-separatist parties.
Also in the interview he said that he was "willing to be a candidate" in the regional elections on December 21 and added that he could campaign from overseas. He worked his way up to Catalan parliament and represented the political movement for independence.
Catalonia's Parliament voted in favor of a declaration of independence on October 27. Spanish authorities have sought Puigdemont's arrest for his connection to the recent attempt of Catalan independence.
