Papadopoulos' lie to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents detailed the nature of his interactions with "foreign nationals" who he believed to be closely connected to senior Russian government officials.
Sanders's assertion is at odds with the indictment issued by the Special Counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, which states Papadopoulos was encouraged to meet with Russian officials by campaign officials.

"No activity was ever done in an official capacity", Huckabee Sanders said of Papadopoulos. According to the plea statement, following his July 27, 2017 arrest, Papadopoulos "met with the Government on numerous occasions to provide information and answer questions".
Sanders emphasized that she's "not sure that the president recalls specific details" of a March 31 national security team meeting at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.in which Papadopoulos was present.
"We do think it will wrap up soon". Sanders also commented on his case.
Sanders said that the White House isn't expecting such differences of vision to delay the tax package, which Congress will begin considering in earnest this week.
