A relative says John Conyers, who is battling sexual harassment allegations from former female staffers, won't seek re-election to a 28th term in Congress.
Conyers was hospitalized in late November for a stress-related illness as top Democrats continue to call for his resignation due to the growing sexual misconduct scandal.
On Monday, a woman who said she worked for him for more than a decade said he slid his hand up her skirt and rubbed her thighs while she was sitting next to him in the front row of a church.
Conyers' attorney Arnold Reed told the Detroit Free Press Grubbs' allegations are "another instance of tomfoolery from the mouth of Harvey Weinstein's attorney".
Conyers also endorsed his son, John Conyers III, to replace him in office.
In the days following the allegations, Conyers, who is the longest serving current House member, had fiercely denied the allegations against him and vowed to fight to clear his name. Conyers settled a wrongful dismissal claim in 2015 with a former employee who said he fired her because she said no to his sexual advances. He said Ian Conyers has not been "part of the conversations" between Reed, Conyers and his wife, Monica Conyers, regarding the congressman's future.
In the affidavit, Grubbs said Brown told her, "That SOB just wanted me to have sex with him".
News of Conyers' departure comes amid a firestorm of sexual misconduct allegations made against other members of Congress, including Sen.

'The allegations against congressman Conyers as we have learned more since Sunday are serious, disappointing and very credible, ' said Pelosi, a California representative who notably did not call for Conyers to go during a Sunday appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press'. Other local media also reported the plans, citing sources close to Conyers. We don't condone sexual harassment on any level, ' he said.
Speaking on the Mildred Gaddis radio show, Conyers said he's taking the allegations "in stride".
Conyers is one of four sitting United States lawmakers hit by allegations of sexual misconduct in the wake of the claims targeting movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, which triggered a torrent of accusations against powerful figures in the worlds of entertainment, media and politics.
"Oh, absolutely not", Conyers said.
They said the congressman is entitled to due process.
A week after the report, second ex-staffer of the congressman also accused him of sexual harassment and several Congressional Black Caucus members urged him to resign. She said he asked her to read his statement announcing his decision and that he's notified House Speaker Paul Ryan, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder of his plans to step down.
Conyers first was elected to the U.S. House in 1964.
