Murder decreased by 5.2 per cent (from 32,127 cases in 2015 to 30,450 in 2016), rioting 5 per cent (from 65,255 cases in 2015 to 61,974 in 2016 ), dacoity 4.5 per cent (from 3,972 cases in 2015 to 3,795 in 2016) and robbery 11.8 per cent (from 36,188 cases in 2015 to 31,906 in 2016). Most cyber crimes in city Mumbai tops the list when it comes to cyber crimes recording 23.5 per cent of all such cases in the country.
The National capital is the most unsafe among 19 major cities in the country, accounting for almost 40 per cent of rapes reported, 33 per cent of crimes against women and the highest crime rate in 2016, according to data released by the NCRB on Thursday.
Of the total crimes, 29,75,711 are those registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 18,55,804 under Special and Local Laws (SLL), the NCRB data said. As per the data, only six cases of crimes against the elderly were registered in 2015, which increased to 56 in 2016. Mumbai also ranked second in cases of kidnapping and abduction of children, with 5,457 cases in Delhi and 1,864 cases in Mumbai.
However, when overall crime, including those under SLL, was taken into account, UP shot towards the top of the list. All 114 persons arrested for crimes against children were chargesheeted.
Kidnapping and abduction of children accounted for 52.3% of the cases followed by cases reported under POCSO (Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act) - 34.4%.

Maharashtra ranked first in number of cases registered for outraging a woman's modesty and in crimes against senior citizens in 2016. In Crime against women, Delhi reported highest crime rate of 160.4 in comparison to national average rate of 55.2.
Total 84,746 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage modesty were reported in 2016. Mumbai also had the second highest number of rape cases, at 712 cases, after Delhi that had 1,996 cases. Maharashtra reported highest 11,396 cases, followed by UP with 11,335 cases and MP with 8,717 cases.
The NCRB report on crimes for the year 2016 has placed Mumbai first in offences against senior citizens and second, next to Delhi, in crimes against women as well as children.
In cases of kidnapping and abduction of women, 3,364 cases were registered in Delhi, followed by 1,142 cases in Mumbai, and 674 cases in Bengaluru. It was followed by Madhya Pradesh (8.9 per cent), Maharashtra (8.8 per cent) and Kerala (8.7 per cent).
Delhi city topped all of NCRB crime categories - kidnapping and abduction, murder, rape, cruelty by husband and his relatives, dowry deaths, juveniles in conflict with law, economic offences - apart from cyber crimes.
