Rodriguez had been working as a boys' soccer coach at Fort White High School, but was suspended pending the investigation, according to a statement from Lex Carswell, superintendent of Columbia County Schools.
Frisina has family in NY and Rodriguez has family in Canada and possibly Pennsylvania, Murray Smith, public information officer for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, said. It's believed she left voluntarily with him, authorities said earlier.
Florida law enforcement authorities had issued a missing child alert for Caitlyn Frisina after she was last seen last week.
The 17-year-old, who played soccer at her Florida high school, may have been in a relationship with the assistant boys' soccer coach Rian Rodriguez, who was with Frisina in the vehicle when police intervened around 4 p.m. Friday.
State Police say Rodriguez was familiar with Central New York- the Cicero area in particular.
Local authorities, aided by agencies including the U.S. Marshal Service, began searching for the pair and the 2001 Mercury Sable in which they were believed to have been traveling.
