Hailing the first NDA government for its work in the northeast, PM Modi added, "During the tenure of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee significant work was done for the development of the Northeast".
During a BJP rally, PM Modi said, "Over the next 2-3 years, an investment of about Rs 60,000 crore is proposed under the Special Accelerated Road Development Project (SARDP) in the Northeast and an investment of Rs 30,000 crore under Bharatmala is proposed for development of national highways in northeastern states".
With this, Mizoram becomes the third power sufficient State in the Northeastern region, after Sikkim and Tripura, he said, adding that the Central Government would aim to make Mizoram a major power exporter by tapping its power potential.
Stating that the Union Government wants to make Meghalaya a top tourist destination, Modi pointed out that the Central Government had sanctioned around Rs 100 crores for development of tourism destinations in Meghalaya.
Earlier, Meghalaya BJP president also addressed a public rally.

Modi then travelled to Meghalaya capital Shillong, where he inaugurated the BJP's state office and inaugurated the 261-km long East West Corridor, which connects Shillong with Tura in Garo Hills region of the state. "When our ministers come to this state, they stay here to talk to the people directly about their issues and needs", he said, adding that his government is making efforts to lessen the injustice done to North East all these years. "The Government of India has sanctioned around Rs One hundred crores for development of tourist destinations in the State". He dedicated the project to the people saying it will boost the socio-economic development of the State. He will inaugurate infrastructure projects and also open a Bharatiya Janata Party office in Meghalaya.
In Aizawl on Saturday, Modi called Mizoram the "gateway to southeast Asia" and said it would gain from the Centre's Act East policy.
"In the spirit of "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas", every Indian, irrespective of caste, gender, religion, class must have equal opportunities to partake in the new prosperity".
